Hi dolls! I’m Mara, a thirty-something year old poet, lipstick fanatic, and scent enthusiast, still trying to figure out where I fit in the madness that is society. What I can tell you is that some parts I’ve figured out, and others I’m still navigating—each one a step I’m excited to share with you here on my little piece of the internet.
So lipstick, poetry, and fragrance? I’ll admit, on first glance, my trio of passions may seem a little mismatched. You’re probably wondering: how on earth do they…go?
Let’s rewind for a second. Since I was fifteen, I’ve been writing poetry and prose—spinning something tangible from abstract emotions and ideas. I’m endlessly fascinated by how poetry creates atmosphere, how word choices shape emotion, and how rhythm breathes life into language. It’s intimate, revealing, and deeply expressive.
And that’s where fragrance slips in. Fragrance is the invisible poem we wear. It’s mood, memory, and meaning all bottled into scent. A fragrance can transport, transform, or linger like a haunting stanza. It says something before we speak. Like poetry, it plays with tone, with notes layered like metaphors—top, heart, and base. It’s the final line of a poem whispered into the air. To me, fragrance is presence personified.
Lipstick, too, is a form of storytelling. It’s bold, playful, romantic—sometimes rebellious. It’s one of the most expressive tools in makeup, more daring than foundation, more versatile than liner. A single swipe can elevate a mood or create a whole character.
Lipsticks, poems, and perfumes—different mediums, same goal: to express, enhance, and connect. Through this blog, I want to challenge how we view beauty and art. They don’t have to live in separate worlds. They can be functional, wearable, poetic.
Here, I’ll be sharing my writing, my go-to lip shades, and scent discoveries that stir something deeper.
So dolls, the only question left is…
Are you Team MATTE, Team AND, or maybe even Team METAL?
Definition of media/medium: the material form that poets, product developers, and perfumers use to create a work of art.
I hope you enjoy reading Matte and Metal Media as much as I’ve loved creating it. xx
